How to Go About Naming Your Company?
Why is it that we are able to memorize some brand names while forgetting others?
If you can afford to purchase a huge amount of advertising with a vast marketing budget, you can certainly hope to get your company’s name pounded into the memory of consumers through constant repetition of the name in all kinds of ads. Even some of the most ridiculous brand names can benefit from this strategy.
But what if your budget doesn’t allow you to do so? Well, there’s a better way to go about naming your company; a way which will certainly make customers remember your company’s name on their own without you having to constantly pound them with it.
The following are a few points which you should consider while trying to make your company’s name memorable:
Not Too Serious
The key is to keep it interesting. You don’t want your business’s name to appear too sulky or so serious that people wouldn’t even be able to relate to. You want to touch your consumers on an emotional level with the name. Emotional reactions are always remembered!
Precise and To the Point
Name a company which has over 12 letters in its name.
No luck? There’s a reason you can’t think of any. The professionals know how to keep it short and powerful. Avoid funky spellings and don’t make it too complicated. The simpler and easier it is to spell and pronounce your company’s name, the better.
Outside the Box
Don’t stick to a certain tradition set by the industry or market your business will be categorized under. If your name is similar to your competitors, you won’t really stand out. Don’t be someone in the crowd. Think outside the box!
Follow a Concept
Don’t try communicating several ideas into the name. Just stick to one concept and one concept only. Try coming up with a name that defines your company’s mission in a powerful manner.
Domain Is Always Priority!
Always keep in mind that your company’s domain name should be considered a top priority as well! If you’re going for the name “ABC” then you should get the domain ABC.com instead of ABCSolutions.com or ABCUSA.com. If you can’t buy the exact ABC.com domain then it’s better if you come up with another name.
Legal Ownership
There’s no use of your well thought out company name if you won’t be able to use it. So it is better if you take out some time and do some research about whether or not you’ll be able to use this name legally. Google is probably a nice place to start your search. The idea is simple, if the name is already acquired or considered unethical to some communities, drop it.
Invite your important organizational stakeholders to brainstorm ideas. Create a list of names that you think might fit and ultimately choose on from this list. Always remember that the time you invest in creating the right name for your company in the initial stages of your business will give you considerable returns in the future.
